It’s been a while since we’ve seen Simon Pegg and Nick Frost in a comedy together, but with the rap sheet of work that they’ve done together (Spaced, Hot Fuzz, Shaun of the Dead, etc.) this is gonna be a hilarious adventure.
In this modern day E.T. Seth Rogen voices Paul, an alien that lands on Earth while to sci-fi geeks are on a road trip to Area 51. What ensues is an adventure to help this alien get home, and save him from being an autopsy victim. Also starring Jason Bateman, as the antagonistic FBI agent this movie is gonna have you laughing for days.
*Another candidate in the aren’t you happy this British series never was remade for an America audience*
Simon Pegg and Jessica Hynes take us on a wonderful journey as two flatmates that pretend to be a couple so they can take residency in a house. Strangers that meet each other at a coffee shop Tim (played by Simon Pegg) and Daisy (played by Jessica Hynes), are both in relationships that have come to and end or pause. In the following two seasons what takes place is a plethora of amusing situations involving their alcoholic landlord Marsha, their unbalanced painter neighbor Brian, Daisy’s fashion designer friend Twist, and Tim’s bestfriend war nut Mike.
A comedy reflective of the time that it is in (1999-2001), and also deep-rooted in geek culture. Sci-fi/comic book fans will find a home with this series. Being a comic book illustrator and a devout fan of the Star Wars series Tim becomes disheartened after the release of The Phantom Menace and suddenly loses all loyalty to what he once loved, causing him to lash out to the less informed. Not solely focusing on Tim, the show also features moments where Daisy feels isolated and ventures on a trip to Asia so she can find herself and expand on her writing.
I could go on and on about this, but than I’d feel like I’ve suddenly created a fan page. If your looking for a comedy with amazing characters and writing, than this is the perfect show for you. Director Edgar Wright has proven has he can do with a script recently and this sitcom is a prime example of how talented he is, and how the actors he works with triumph through his direction.
